This Week At Bloc: January 22

Welcome to our weekly roundup of what to expect from our gig and clubs this week at Bloc! Everything is free entry!

Monday, January 22: The Blas Collective

From Glasgow’s folk music hive of activity, the Blas Collective emerged in 2009 as a jam with a few friends.  Since then it has become an eclectic evening of folk, jazz, country, blues and some pop covers too.  Hosted by singers Jenn Butterworth, Laura-Beth Salter and Hamish Napier, expect to hear songs from the heart-wrenchingly sad to the just plain ridiculous.  Joined by fiddler Adam Sutherland, percussionist Steve Forman and often a few other musical pals, the group jam from basic charts and create on-the-spot arrangements, guaranteeing that every night will be a different experience – which is just the way Bloc+ likes it!

Wednesday, January 24: Barbe Rousse + December ’91

Barbe Rousse is the musical outpourings of Alasdair Kelly. Gorgeous, woozy psychedelic-pop, much like lying in the best bubble bath ever.

Thursday, January 25: Stretched with Not Now Charlie

The roots of this Newcastle based Not Now Charlie are set in the Jazz world but they draw on their mutual love of many other genres such as Rock, Neo Soul, Pop and R&B. Expect the perfect mix of Jazz harmony with infectious grooves and memorable melodies, all topped off with the excitement of improvisation.

Friday, January 26: Shake Appeal (club night)

Shake Appeal welcome you all to gather at the House of Bloc, for the finest in rock n’ roll, rockabilly, punk, garage, punk n’ roll, rhythm & blues, sleaze rock, wham bam glam & 60′s girl group sounds

Drinks will be had, rugs will be cut & requests duly ignored.

Saturday, January 27: GONZO Indie Disco

The best indie disco in Glasgow returns. MTV 2 and the brown couch is brought back to life with a night of ALL the hits.

Sunday, January 28: Bloc+Jam Open Mic

For the last few years Bloc+ has been running one of Glasgow’s most popular and consistently high-quality open mic nights, thanks largely to Jamie Sturt and friends, not to mention our incredibly gifted and facially pleasing clientele.

The gear is all ready to go so, if you’re fed up spending Sunday nights apprehensively contemplating the weekdays of early morning traffic, water-cooler small-talk, dole-office appointments or car theft, pop along and enjoy Bloc’s warm atmosphere and cold beverages. Or is it cold atmosphere and warm beverages…?
