This Week At Bloc: 26 February
Welcome to our weekly roundup of what to expect from our gig and clubs this week at Bloc! Everything is free entry!
Monday, February 26: The Blas Collective
From Glasgow’s folk music hive of activity, the Blas Collective emerged in 2009 as a jam with a few friends. Since then it has become an eclectic evening of folk, jazz, country, blues and some pop covers too. Hosted by singers Jenn Butterworth, Laura-Beth Salter and Hamish Napier, expect to hear songs from the heart-wrenchingly sad to the just plain ridiculous. Joined by fiddler Adam Sutherland, percussionist Steve Forman and often a few other musical pals, the group jam from basic charts and create on-the-spot arrangements, guaranteeing that every night will be a different experience – which is just the way Bloc+ likes it!
Tuesday, February 27: Emme Woods’ Bras ‘N’ Braces [SXSW Fundraiser]
A mad night of gipsy-klezmer tunes with a little sprinkle of dub, hip-hop and Balkan beats.
Make sure to bring yer bras and braces because these ludicrous tunes are gonna blast yer mams off. Prepare to dance til you can’t dance no more. Some musical surprises will be in store. This event is to fundraise to get Emme Woods to SXSW 2018 in Austin, TX.
Thursday, March 1: Slippery Nights with Old Guard + Lifeskills
Local screamers, Old guard have enough tears to float a big ol boat. Debut 10″ ‘Not Everything Is A Dream’ available everywhere now and follow up release split with Perfect Blue coming shortly! Support from Lifeskills: Noisy, jagged, lop-sided trio creating three minute bursts of melody and energy; setting a scene for dark tales of turmoil both real and imagined. Music coming soon!

Sunday, March 4: Bloc+Jam Open Mic
For the last few years, Bloc+ has been running one of Glasgow’s most popular and consistently high-quality open mic nights, thanks largely to Jamie Sturt and friends, not to mention our incredibly gifted and facially pleasing clientele.
The gear is all ready to go so, if you’re fed up spending Sunday nights apprehensively contemplating the weekdays of early morning traffic, water-cooler small-talk, dole-office appointments or car theft, pop along and enjoy Bloc’s warm atmosphere and cold beverages. Or is it cold atmosphere and warm beverages…?
