This Week At Bloc: 12 March

Welcome to our weekly roundup of what to expect from our gig and clubs this week at Bloc! Everything is free entry!

Monday, March 12: The Blas Collective

From Glasgow’s folk music hive of activity, the Blas Collective emerged in 2009 as a jam with a few friends.  Since then it has become an eclectic evening of folk, jazz, country, blues and some pop covers too.  Hosted by singers Jenn Butterworth, Laura-Beth Salter and Hamish Napier, expect to hear songs from the heart-wrenchingly sad to the just plain ridiculous.  Joined by fiddler Adam Sutherland, percussionist Steve Forman and often a few other musical pals, the group jam from basic charts and create on-the-spot arrangements, guaranteeing that every night will be a different experience – which is just the way Bloc+ likes it!

Tuesday, 13 March: Charlie Barnes + Angus Munro

Charlie Barnes tours upcoming release “Oceanography” – out on Superball Music in March 2018. Fans of Oceansize, Radiohead and Mew take note! Support comes from local songwriter Angus Munro

Wednesday, 14 March: Dammit Presents: Nightwatchers + The Kimberly Steaks + Goodbye Blue Monday

Heroes of the UK punk scene, French punk rock and misery punk all in one night. Three facets of the genre punk that will have you peaking and troughing. It’s another fine line-up courtesy of Dammit.

Thursday, 15 March: GoldMold Presents Clearer The Sky + Antiguo

Post-hardcore Scottish outfit Clearer The Sky are joined by hardcore Scots Antiguo.

Friday, 16 March: Permanent Daylight (club night)

Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow! Tiz and WullietheItalian are finally back to provide you rock and roll, electro and much more.

Saturday, 17 March: Fantastic Man (club night)

Imagine William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Chris Pine in a room hysterically laughing for 24 hours as they realise that all they really had to do was sit and wait and the argument would resolve itself.

Sunday, March 18: Bloc+Jam Open Mic

For the last few years, Bloc+ has been running one of Glasgow’s most popular and consistently high-quality open mic nights, thanks largely to Jamie Sturt and friends, not to mention our incredibly gifted and facially pleasing clientele.

The gear is all ready to go so, if you’re fed up spending Sunday nights apprehensively contemplating the weekdays of early morning traffic, water-cooler small-talk, dole-office appointments or car theft, pop along and enjoy Bloc’s warm atmosphere and cold beverages. Or is it cold atmosphere and warm beverages…?
