UNITING AS A MUSICAL COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR “MUSIC BROTH”

Through donations, competitions and online fundraisers we seek to raise money for Music Broth with the aim to make music inclusive and accessible to everyone while promoting sustainability.

Every December, BLOC+ joins to celebrate with our extended family of promoters, DJs, musicians and punters: faces from all walks of life; every taste in music; all ages; all genders; to raise money for worthy causes.

We call this initiative “ENSEMBLE” in reference to the way music brings people together and can foster harmony within and between communities.

In the words of the charity itself:

"We support people of all ages and backgrounds including; established musicians, those just starting their musical journey, those struggling financially, people with physical or mental health issues, people affected by homelessness, older long-term residents, as well as those newly arrived in Scotland such as refugees and individuals seeking asylum - basically everyone!"

Please note: despite this campaign, all BLOC+ events will remain free entry and all performers and DJs will be paid for their work as normal. These performers, in gracing us with their time and talent, will be contributing to the goal of raising financial support and wider awareness of this cause.

Reducing Financial Barriers

Music, sadly, can be a luxury. Instruments are expensive, tutors cost money and for most, this is unachievable or unsustainable. We believe in a world where creating music is a right, not a privilege. Through our library, we support many individuals and groups who would not be able to access music otherwise.

Improving Mental Health

It’s not a surprise that music is amazing for your brain and body. Studies show that listening to, and playing, music releases dopamine - the feel-good chemical and that music not only calms the mind but can help control pain.

Creating a Connected Community

As part of our charity, we are creating a community. Together we are a family who helps each other. From the people who attend our events to our volunteers, we’ve created a connected community of support and lifelong friendships. Through our Library Hub, we create an inclusive home away from home and an escape for those who need it. All are welcome!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Our instrument library is built on the donations of pre-loved instruments. We stop instruments from going to landfill and re-share them throughout our community. We repair and maintain these instruments in our library and any instruments which cannot be fixed are used in our repurposing workshops.
